How Not To Gain Weight Post-Weight Loss Surgery
People think that if they cannot lose weight using any other weight loss method, then weight loss surgery is the only way to gain the much coveted slim body. That is all true! Weight loss surgery can surely help you lose weight, but it won't help you keep the weight off. What I mean is that if you lose weight today but gain it back sometime later, what is the use of weight loss? In this article I will tell you about some of the ways you can lose weight with the surgery as well as keep it off for good.
1. Have yourself checked up: If you are gaining weight in the post-surgery period, you need to visit a doctor to make sure that you are not suffering from any disease that is causing weight gain. Once the possibility of such a disease is ruled out, it is time to follow the next step.
2. Modify your lifestyle habits: Just because you lost weight with the help of surgery doesn't mean that you can now go back and enjoy your favorite junk foods. One of the primary reasons why you needed to go through the surgery was that you followed certain bad lifestyle habits, such as eating junk and fatty foods and sitting on the couch the entire day. If you follow that same lifestyle again, it is only natural that you will gain weight!
3. Don't think of yourself as a failure: Many times, when we gain back the weight we 'lost', we feel like we have failed to lose weight, or that weight loss is impossible for us. It is not so! Weight gain is natural after you have lost weight successfully, more so if you don't continue with your diet and exercise routine that you probably used to follow before the surgery. But there is no need to get disheartened, as there are ways to make sure you maintain your slim figure for your entire life.
4. 3 Ways to keep your weight off. There are three main ways to keep the weight from coming back:
a) Eat a protein-rich diet: Protein has many advantages. It not only helps in keeping your stomach full for a long time, thereby suppressing your hunger, but also in building strong muscles. As you know, the more muscles you have, the more fat you will be able to burn. That is why I would recommend that you eat foods that are high on protein. Eat two protein shakes at breakfast!
b) Drink lots of water: Water also helps you lose weight by boosting your metabolic rate. However water means plain, clean water, not tea, coffee, soda or fizzy drinks. You should drink eight glasses of water per day to keep your body hydrated and healthy!
c) Workout regularly: Have you become lax in your workouts post-surgery? Did anyone tell you that you don't need to exercise once you lose weight with the help of weight loss surgery? If anyone did then he is a fool! Working out regularly in the gym will make sure you don't gain back your 'lost' weight. Try to do weight lifting or resistance training workouts as they are best for burning fat and maintaining your slim figure!
